Let me tell you a story.

Year in Review

By The Common Cook is where I write about food. I think of the blog as the conversation around the table. The blog started five years ago. It is one of my proudest accomplishments.

My fingers and brain started to feel restless the other day so I created this 2014 year in review of blog posts. The posts mentioned were all posted in 2014. They include exciting accomplishments, reader favorites, and most shared.

I used InDesign (still working on CS4) for the final. It started on a glass board and graph paper -- a throwback to an observational astronomy class at UT.

An open notebook of scribbles and doodles

Like many things kind of new and very uncertain there are a lot of names for what this notebook is. I first learned about citizen science in a college observational astronomy class. Several years later I first started learning its name from scientist friends. Having often thought of pursuing a career as a scientist but choosing instead to write about science (and every other topic) I'm rather thrilled by the idea of pretending to be one.

It's also a journal. It's a sketchbook. It's learning new techniques. It's creativity.
